Historic period of Western Culture always begins its long historic period with Egyptian culture and Egyptian written language, a specific type of calligraphy called pictographs. A double entendre is formed from these pictographs. The primary signification is the sovereign “thing in itself”. A secondary context is formed from the images phonetic placement in the idea being communicated. In order to confirm the idea being communicated Egyptians placed at the end of each noun a determinative. The determinative would be silent pictograph of the object being stated, serving a function like a title for visual art. Pictographs were sacred carvings, hieroglyphs, and were deeply carved into Egyptian myth, mysticism along with the Egyptian identification of self and humanity.
These paintings relate to world universality, individual humanity, and self. Creating personal pictographs in my paintings I both ask and answer as I stroll down caveman alley of timeless questions that plague fossil humanity. Sampling skull images from my experiences in addition with interjecting, imposing, and inserting window parts of other realities in my work a solid universal context can be constructed. However, this institutional context becomes only a new text in relation to experience. This new text I again extract, unearth, and size up in order to create my own sacred carving on the time sculpture of humanity.
